Privacy Policy
Effective: February 26, 2024
Welcome to Outgoer Pty Ltd's Privacy Policy. This policy outlines how we collect and use your data, as well as how you can control your information. We believe in transparency and strive to ensure there are no surprises regarding your data. For example, we use your information to personalize your experience, showing you content and ads that are most relevant to you. Your privacy is paramount to us, and we prioritize giving you control over your content. We default to deleting content and provide tools for you to manage who sees your content and when it's saved. This policy covers our Outgoer App and all our products, services, and features. When we mention "Services," we're referring to all of them. If you see us mention "Terms," we mean the Terms of Use you agree to when signing up for our Services. Lastly, when we say "Outgoers or Outgoer" we're referring to any user of our Services.
Information Collection
This section outlines the information we collect, categorized into three main areas: information you provide, information generated through your use of our Services, and information received from others. Additionally, with your permission, we may collect additional information. When you use our Services like Outgoer, we gather information you provide, generate data based on your usage, and occasionally receive data from third parties. Let's delve deeper into each of these categories.
Information You Provide
Many of our Services require you to create an account, where we ask for account details such as your name, username, email address, birthday, and phone number. Setting up your profile also involves providing profile details, like your profile picture. When using our commerce products for purchases, we may request payment and related information, such as your physical address for shipping, payment details, and transaction history.
Additionally, the information you send or save within our Services is also provided by you. Some of this content is considered private, like chats with friends, My Story set to Friends, Private Stories, voice and video calls, and content saved in My Eyes Only. On the other hand, some information is considered public and accessible to everyone, such as Public Story content (including My Story set to Everyone, Shared Stories, and Community Stories), Spotlight or Outgoer Map submissions, and Public Profile information. It's important to note that other Outgoers can capture and save content you share, so it's advisable not to send messages or share content that you wouldn’t want to be saved or shared.
Lastly, when you contact Support, our Safety team, or communicate with us in any other way (including through research efforts like surveys or consumer panels), we collect the information you provide to resolve your query.
Information We Generate When You Use Our Services
When you utilize our Services, we collect data on which Services you've engaged with and how you've interacted with them. This enables us to gain insights into how our community uses our Services, helping us enhance user experiences.
This data includes usage information, which details how you interact with our Services. For instance, it includes which Lenses you view and apply, the Stories you watch, and how frequently you communicate with other Outgoers. Additionally, we gather content information, such as the content you create or provide, your engagement with the camera and creative tools, interactions with My AI, and metadata associated with your content. For example, metadata could include information like the date and time a post was made and who viewed it. Content information also encompasses data based on the content itself, so if you post a Spotlight featuring a basketball game, we might use that data to show you more basketball-related content on Spotlight.
Moreover, we collect device information, such as hardware or software details, operating system, device memory, advertising identifiers, installed apps, browser type, data from device sensors measuring motion or compass orientation, microphone status (including headphone connection), and information about wireless and mobile connections. Location information, such as your IP address, is also gathered. Depending on your settings, we may collect information through cookies and similar technologies like web beacons, web storage, and unique advertising identifiers. Log information, which includes details on your usage of our Services, access times, pages viewed, IP address, and unique identifiers like cookies, is also part of this data collection.
If you have explicitly granted device-level permissions, device information may also include access to your device's phonebook (contacts and related information), images from your camera, photos, and microphone. This allows features like taking photos or videos, viewing stored photos and videos, and accessing the microphone to record audio while recording video.
Data We Receive From Others
The final category of data we gather includes information about you that we receive from other sources, such as other users, our affiliates, and third parties. This encompasses several types of data:
• Linked Third-Party Service Data: This refers to information we obtain when you link your Outgoer account to another service.
• Data from Advertisers: This includes information from advertisers, app developers, publishers, and other third parties that helps us target or measure the performance of ads.
• Contact Info from Other Outgoers or Third Parties: If another Outgoer uploads their contact list, which includes your information, we may combine that with other information we have about you to better understand who you may want to communicate with. Similarly, if you provide us with your contact information, we may use that to determine if we can communicate with you in other ways, such as through SMS, email, or other messaging services.
• Data Relating to Potential Violations of Our Terms: We may receive information from third parties, including website publishers, social network providers, law enforcement, and others, regarding potential violators of our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
Other Information, With Your Permission
Further, there are situations in which we may request your permission to gather additional information when you interact with our Services. For instance, this could include accessing your device's camera roll or contact book.
How We Use Information
This section outlines the purposes for which we use the information we collect, including providing personalized products and services that we continuously strive to enhance and refine.
Keep Things Up & Running (i.e., operate, deliver, and maintain our Services)
We utilize the information we gather to ensure the smooth operation, delivery, and maintenance of our Services. For instance, we use this information to send a Outgoer you wish to share with a friend or, if you enable location sharing on Outgoer Map, to provide suggestions such as nearby places you might be interested in, content posted by others on the Map, or the location of your friends if they are sharing it with you. Additionally, we use certain information to keep our products current, ensuring compatibility with the latest operating systems and devices.
Personalize Your Experience & Give Context
We personalize your Outgoer experience by showing you content we think you'll enjoy based on the information you share with us. This includes tagging content with labels like "dog" if there's a dog in the photo, making it searchable in Memories, and showing it on the Map where you took the photo. We also use this information to suggest friends, recommend places on the Outgoer Map, and customize the content we show you, including ads.
For example, if you watch barista content on Spotlight or save a lot of coffee-related photos, we may highlight coffee shops on the Outgoer Map when you visit a new city or show you content about coffee. We also tailor your experience based on what your friends are doing, showing you content your friends create or enjoy on Spotlight.
Our goal is to provide you with more relevant content. We balance personalization with privacy by not using your private content or communications with friends to personalize your experience or show you ads.
Provide Relevant Ads
We personalize ads based on your interests and preferences using the information we've collected. Our goal is to show you relevant ads at the right time. For example, if you've shown interest in video game ads, we'll infer that you like video games and show you similar ads, but we also aim to provide a variety of ads. We use your information to avoid showing you ads you're unlikely to be interested in. For instance, if a ticketing site indicates you've already purchased tickets for a movie, we won't show you ads for it.
We may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information when you interact with Services offered through our partners. This helps us show you more relevant ads. Most web browsers accept cookies by default, but you can usually change your settings to remove or reject cookies. However, this may affect the availability and functionality of our Services. To learn more about how we and our partners use cookies and your choices, please refer to our Cookie Policy.
Develop & Improve Features, Algorithms & Machine Learning Models
Our teams are continuously brainstorming new ideas to enhance our Services. To achieve this, we refine the algorithms and machine learning models that power our features and Services, including generative AI features. These AI models are trained to generate text, images, or other media based on patterns in the input data.
We use algorithms and machine learning for various purposes such as personalization, advertising, safety and security, fairness and inclusivity, augmented reality, and to prevent abuse or violations of our Terms of Service. For instance, our algorithms consider the conversations users have with My AI to improve My AI's responses.
While your information can help us make these improvements, we prioritize privacy and only use the minimum necessary personal information for developing our features and models.
Analytics
To determine what features to develop or how to enhance our Services, we analyze trends and demand. For instance, we monitor metadata and trends related to Group Chat usage to assess whether adjustments, like changing the maximum Group size, are necessary. Analyzing Outgoer data allows us to identify usage patterns, inspiring broader improvements to the platform. Through analytics, we track and analyze trends and usage patterns to create user insights that inform our decision-making process and help us understand demand.
Research
We conduct research to gain insights into general consumer interests, trends, and the usage patterns of our Services within our community. This research, combined with analytics, helps us understand our community better and how our Services integrate into their lives. Additionally, we engage in research and development to create new technologies and techniques, such as new machine learning models or hardware like Spectacles. The findings from our research are occasionally incorporated into Outgoer features, and we may also publish papers on topics such as overall behaviors and consumer trends. These publications only contain aggregated data across our user base and do not include any private information about individual users.
Enhance the Safety & Security of Our Services
We utilize your information to bolster the safety and security of our Services, verify the identity of Outgoers, and prevent fraud or other unauthorized or illegal activities. For instance, we offer two-factor authentication to safeguard your account and can send you email or text notifications if we detect any suspicious behavior. Additionally, we scan URLs shared on Outgoer to identify potentially harmful webpages and can alert you accordingly.
Contacting You
At times, we may contact you to highlight new or existing features. This can involve sending Outgoer notifications through the app itself, as well as emails, SMS messages, or messages on other platforms where permitted. For instance, we might use Outgoer, email, SMS, or other platforms to inform you about our Services and any promotions we believe may be of interest to you.
Additionally, there are instances where we need to communicate with you to provide information, alerts, or messages requested by our users. This could include sending communications through Outgoer, email, SMS, or other platforms where permitted, to provide updates on account status, security alerts, and reminders related to Chats or friend requests. It may also involve fulfilling requests from our users to send invites or Outgoer content to non-Outgoers.
Support
When you seek assistance, our goal is to provide support promptly. To address issues with our Services and assist you, the Outgoer community, and our business partners effectively, we may need to utilize the information we've gathered.
We also use the data we collect to ensure compliance with our Terms and policies, as well as with the law. This involves enforcing, investigating, and reporting on activities that violate our Terms, policies, or legal requirements. For example, if unlawful content is posted on our Services, we may need to take action per our Terms and policies. Additionally, we may use or disclose your information to cooperate with law enforcement requests, address safety concerns, or fulfill our legal obligations.

When you use these integrations, you may be sharing information with both the integrated partner and Outgoer. We are not responsible for how these partners collect or use your information. We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of all third-party services you use, including those accessed through our Services.
International Data Transfers

How Long We Keep Your Information
In this section, we outline how long we retain your information, the reasons behind it, and how legal obligations may impact the retention period. Typically, we keep data for as long as you instruct us or as needed to provide our Services, or as mandated by law. For instance, if you save content in Memories, we retain it until you choose to delete it. However, certain factors influence our decision on data retention:
• Necessity for operating our Services, like basic account details for maintaining your account.

• Legal obligations dictating data retention duration.
• Legitimate purposes, like preventing harm or investigating violations of our policies.

• Additionally, we may restrict how we collect, use, and store certain information of users under 18. This may result in certain functionality being unavailable to individuals under 18 years old.
